Interpretive Haiku Booklet | Spring 2023
Adobe Illustrator
OBJECTIVES

Employing the basis for developing dynamic visual images, compose a non-literal visual and typographic interpretive sequence based on a haiku poem.
HAIKU SELECTION
The rose blooms once more
Sharp thorns meet gentle petals
Beautiful contrast
THE ROSE BLOOMS ONCE MORE
Translucent, hexagonal forms allude to the shape and delicacy of the rose. Typography is spiraled around a central point, implying the essence of blooming.
SHARP THORNS MEET GENTLE PETALS
Sharp, triangular figures at the focal point  implying thorns are contrasted against translucent hexagons implying petals. Typography for “sharp thorns” varies in size and creates a prickly texture, extruding from the thorn-like geometry, while “gentle petals is scattered loosely to imply a downwards falling motion.
BEAUTIFUL CONTRAST
The geometric figures are overlaid to  take on a more literal form, showcasing the rose in its entirety. Though both angular, the higher opacity of the triangular forms create an integrity and sharpness contrasted by the lighter opacities of the overlaid geometries seen in the petals, creating a visual system that is both harmonious and contrasting such as the rose.
THE COVERS

The covers more blatantly showcase the content of the haiku, while more bashfully referencing the forms illustrated inside the spreads.
